Patience JonathanBefore the return of civil rule on May 29, 1999, not many Nigerians knew the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan. We recall vividly, that throughout the close to three-year period Jonathan served as Vice-President, his wife, Patience, knew her limitations and fully accorded the then First Lady, Hajia Turai Yar’Adua, the respect she rightly deserved. This was probably why throughout the tenure of the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua/Goodluck Jonathan; there were no reported cases of frosty relationship or altercation between Turai and Patience. The vigilante group, known as “Civilian JTF,” a play off the acronym used to describe the joint military and police taskforce in the region, started taking up arms after President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency May 14 in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states — a territory of around 155,000 square kilometers (60,000 square miles) of the Sahel bordering Cameroon, Chad and Niger. Nigeria NGO To Establish Breast Milk Banks

Breast feedingA Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Afribaby Initiative, said it plans to establish breast milk banks in Nigeria to enable proper breastfeeding of babies including the motherless.

The founder of the organisation, Oscar Odiboh, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos on Wednesday that the banks would collect, screen, preserve and distribute human milk to babies.
